Artist Statement
Over the past two years my practice has been concerned with the concept that plants can communicate with one another primarily through their roots, and that they appear to show a social order displaying human attributes such as compassion and sacrifice for their own species. The work that I have produced exploring this concept has been informed by my research into Gaia Theory and Entropy, as well as the work of artist that are sympathetic to my work.
This recent enquiry within my practice has grown out of my on-going interest in the 'Natural’ plant world, leading me to consider the social likenesses of plant life forms to that of our human life forms, and the connections of these rather than the common distinctions of separation.
I have previously worked in a variety of mediums and processes such as printing, painting and collage, but recently I have predominantly focused on sculpture works that expanded into installation. This progression towards installation is a strategy to introduce the viewer to a new encounter with nature.
